DESCRIBED as a “renovator’s dream come true”, this rundown Huon Valley home was a smash hit with buyers — and it was quickly sold with multiple offers on the table.
No.260 Scotts Road, Cairns Bay was Tasmania’s most viewed home on realestate.com.au last week and it cracked the national Top 20 chart, too.

Harcourts Huon Valley owner Nick Bond said on going to market the property was very well received with a lot more people coming to inspect it than is the norm for his patch.
Depending on the price bracket, he said about seven groups would be a normal turnout at an open home, but No.260 Scotts Rd attracted 26 at its first open home.
“There were people lined up along the road,” he said.
“Five more groups came to a second open and there were a number of private inspections, as well.
“We ended up with 10 written contracts submitted within nine days.”
The property was listed at “Best offer over $250,000”, a price that’s hard to come by in the current hot market.

Mr Bond said it was the first time in a long while that his office had sold a property with a house on it in that price range.
“It is fair to say that it needs a lot of work,” he said.
“We created a prerecorded walk-through to send to people, just so they could get a feel for what would be needed should they buy it. And for people that are restricted interstate.
“People recognise that it’s a home that will need a full reno.
“About half of the inquiries came from builders or people that had renovated multiple properties. There were a few first-home buyers that made offers, too.”
Set on 2007sq m, the property is a five-minute drive from the township of Geeveston.
The character home was originally built in 1900, it offers huge potential to be restored to its former glory.

The three-bedroom house has a single bathroom, two wood heaters, built-in wardrobes plus a good size dining and lounge area that opens to the front veranda.
