Almost 140 properties will go under the hammer in SA this week, with many of these hitting the auction block this weekend.
According to CoreLogic, Adelaide’s auction clearance currently sits at 76.9 per cent – less than 1 per cent behind that of Sydney.
Among the SA properties going under the hammer this weekend is a 136-year-old bluestone cottage at 343 Gilles St, Adelaide.
The property had been on the market for barely a day before selling agent Chrissy Esau of LJ Hooker Kensington/Unley was inundated with inquiries.
“I had the most amazing amount of phone calls,” she said at the time.
“People were getting cross because I hadn’t responded to them fast enough.”
The level of interest in the cottage was evident online too, with latest REA data showing the cottage was not only the most viewed property on realestate.com.au across the state in the week ending April 28 but also the second most viewed around the country.
Ms Esau said the three-bedroom, one-bathroom cottage was so popular because it had many features others like it in the city lacked.
“It’s free standing, it’s Torrens title, it’s bluestone without the heritage restrictions, there’s off-street carparking for two cars – that’s so rare in the city,” she said.
“The usual bluestone cottage in the city is two bedrooms, no carparking and joint at the hip (to neighbouring properties).
That home will be auctioned at 11am Saturday.
A stunning sandstone villa at 157 Fisher St Malvern is also set to be auctioned on Saturday.
The property, which goes under the hammer at 11.30am, sits on a 500sqm allotment and is on the market through Harcourts Collective’s Trent and Kim Shorland.
Inside, while you’ll still find plenty of character features – including ornate leadlight doors, arched hallways and open fireplaces – this residence offers plenty of coveted modern updates for families to enjoy.
The rear of the home is dedicated to the kitchen, living and dining area, a space perfect for entertaining family and friends. The kitchen has a dishwasher, gas cooktop and 900mm oven for all your cooking needs.
You can also make the most of the upcoming warmer season and entertain on the rear undercover, paved pergola.
The home also has a lounge room, a modern bathroom, a powder room and a laundry. The property also has sought-after dual vehicle access.
And continuing on the old-meets-new theme, a renovated stunner at 15 Thomas St, Unley will be auctioned off on Saturday.
That property also proved incredibly popular in its opening weekend, with selling agent John Williams (selling with his wife Stephanie) of Williams Real Estate reporting strong interest.
“It was one of the biggest responses we’ve had to a house this year,” Mr Williams said at the time.
He credited the home’s feature in The Advertiser’s Real Estate Magazine, and an advertisement in it, with whipping buyers into a frenzy.
“If you have a feature as well as an ad, how can you miss it?” he said.
“It’s always going to turbocharge a property.
“It just shows you that people in SA still love the Real Estate magazine … it’s very valuable and plays a key part in any marketing campaign – it always has and I think it always will in South Australia.”
