The Block 2021 episode 3 & 4 recap: Love Island twins accuse Mitch and Mark of copyingon 11/08/2021 at 9:00 PM

FATHER knows best. At least that’s what our Love Island hunks believe.

The musclebound duo decided to persevere with plans to use their two-car garage space as a fourth bedroom, against sage advice of award-winning architect Julian Brenchley.

Julian was right to express concern. To make their plans work, the brothers would have to move their now single garage space to another spot on the site.

Tempers flare as architect Julian Brenchley points out a major flaw in the twins floorplan.

And the place they had earmarked, Julian pointed out, was inaccessible by car from the road because of a large street tree.

Undeterred, the boys said they would seek approval from the council to have the tree removed. Clearly, they’ve never dealt with a municipal government before otherwise they’d know that such decisions can take months of community consultation and internal debate. And time is something that Block contestants do not have up their sleeves.

“They came across as a couple of belligerent 13-year-olds,” a frustrated Julian said after the twins failed to see reason.

Julian moans the twins are like belligerent teenagers for not listening to his advice.

Georgia took the opposite approach with Julian’s opinions, getting him to go through, in minute detail, how he would transform their property so that she could do exactly as he would plan.

“He’s an architect not a reality star whose been on Love Island and looks good with no shirt on. You listen to that,” Georgia said.

But believe it or not, there was method to their madness because the twins had sought advice from another expert in the field. Their dad.

“We rang our dad. He’s been in real estate for over 30 years,” they explained of their rationale for prioritising a fourth bedroom over a garage.

The street tree blocking access to the twin’s proposed garage.

The garage continued to cause drama later in the week. A hot-headed Luke heard rumours that Mitch and Mark were copying his bold garage transformation and confronted them when the stalwarts appeared on site with their tutu-clad tradesmen looking to generate a bit of light relief (aka show filler) in the form of a Block exercise session.

Mitch and Mark were confused why they had been attacked as they hadn’t planned to do anything with their garage except put cars in it.

Turns out their builder Jason had been stirring the pot with Luke and Josh’s builder by telling him they were copying their idea.

No-one was seeing the funny side of Jason’s little gag. Especially Mitch and Mark who were still carrying wounds from that 2019 showdown with former friends Tess and Luke.

“We wouldn’t copy someone,” Mark said.

“We wouldn’t do that mainly because it (the Love Islanders’ plan) is dumb,” added Mitch.

Luckily Luke repaired the damage to the friendship with a six-pack of beer, prompting Mitch to remark that the gesture had shown they’d been raised well (if only Tess and Luke could’ve had BWS on speed dial too).

Of course, the twins aren’t just on The Block to win cash and increase the Instagram following they acquired on Love Island. Apparently, they want to show us there’s more to them than meets the eye.

“We’re not just pretty boys who can bake ourselves in the sun to get a tan. We’re much more useful than that,” Luke explained.

Josh added: “We love a challenge and there’s nothing greater than The Block. It’s three months. You’re building a house. No sleep. We want to surprise people. We want to be the underdog story. We want people to write us off because that’s such a huge motivation for us to prove them wrong. We are so much more than just baking on Love Island having a chat and a laugh.”

Although they weren’t really shattering their party boy reputations when they decided to abandon their spare room reno to head out on the town for a few Friday night drinks while the rest of the contestants toiled on.

Dan breaks some bad news to Vito about his plastering.

It had been a hard week for the other newbies.

The cracks in Vito’s organisational skills began to show without a plan or a checklist to follow and Keith wasn’t having a bar of it. Having forgotten to order his Gyprock in a timely fashion, Vito was left high and dry with a team of plasterers on site and no sheets to hang. Rather than sending them home, he decided to beg for some offcuts from his neighbours and cobble those together on the wall instead.

A good plan in theory. But when Keith caught sight of the jigsaw puzzle of a room, he said it was substandard.

Later Dan suggested they fix it with a lengthy replastering process. But Vito decided to listen to his builder who said Dan’s plan would take too long (it remains to be seen whether he made the right call).

Ronnie and Georgia welcome Julian’s floorplan suggestions with open arms.

A memory lapse was the undoing of Kirsty and Jesse too. Dan shutdown their building site when he discovered they’d been carrying out potentially dangerous work on the second storey without adequate safety measures in place.

Experts at pinching pennies, the couple had a win when they elected to build their own windows rather than buying them premade, saving them around $900.

A window proved a financial winner for Ronnie too. He sold an old one to a bloke building a cubby for his daughter. But rather than channelling the funds into wages for his teams or décor for the renovation, he decided to splash out on a vintage BMX for himself.

He argued that the bike would make his trips to and from the carpark faster, but Georgia was less than impressed at his extravagance.

A visit from real estate agent Nicole Jacobs has Mitch and Mark rethinking their plans.

It was a far happier work site next door where Mitch and Mark had finished their pale pink guest bedroom.

The bedroom was initially intended to be just one of three bedrooms on their property. But a visit from real estate agent Nicole Jacobs, had them rethinking their plans.

Nicole was adamant that to do well at auction the houses should have a – wait for it — fourth bedroom.

Yep, it seems that Luke and Josh’s old man was right after all. Now, what to do about that pesky tree!
