Helga and Wolfgang Peukert found their peace at Hilltop – and now they are hoping new owners of the Scott Creek property will be able to experience the same feeling.
Built in the mid-1980s, the solid brick residence is at the heart of the tree-studded 5.72ha Hills property, which Mrs Peukert described as “just beautiful”.
“We call it the forgotten valley because when I say my address, people always ask me ‘where’s that?’,” she laughs.
“Our property is largely bushland, and the house is on top of a hill on a flat area. Everybody who comes here seems to really like the setting.” Built to exacting standards, the one-owner home at Ilunga Drive offers plenty of potential for a family looking to enjoy their own piece of paradise only about 24km from the city centre.
Featuring four bedrooms – the master with an ensuite – the spacious residence features 2.7m ceilings, parquetry flooring, a large living room and a wine store. Ducted gas heating, slow combustion heating and evaporative airconditioning ensure year-round comfort.
There is an outdoor entertaining area, ideal for taking in Hilltop’s peaceful bushland environment.
Separate buildings include a workshop/studio space – complete with its own kitchen and bathroom facilities – while a garage and shedding offer plenty of storage space.
The property boasts 230,000L of rainwater storage, while firefighting sprinklers are installed in the lawn and on the home’s roof. There is also a dam and a generator.
Mrs Peukert says the property’s “quietness” – allowing space for nature – is one of its most attractive qualities.
“There’s almost no sound here – only the sounds of nature,” she says. “Animals come here for food … we have kangaroos, but luckily we don’t have rabbits. There are many birds too – kookaburras, magpies, finches, galahs, rosellas. Our nearest neighbour is maybe 150m down the hill and across the road. We don’t hear each other at all.”
While sad to be leaving, she says it’s now time to move on – perhaps to Sydney, where their son now lives.
“We are both now in our 80s and while we have help with some of the outside work … it’s getting a bit too much for us,” she says. “And we’re thinking we should move now – at the moment we can manage, but we have to think a little bit ahead.”
